VLSI - The process of creating an integrated circuit is called as "Very-large-scale integration (VLSI)". The process of VLSI is executed by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI first began when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed. The microprocessor is a VLSI device. Before its introduction, most ICs had limited sets of functions they could perform. In an electronic circuit where CPU, ROM, RAM and other glue logic are incorporated, all of them could be brought together into a single chip under VLSI technology. VLSI technology actually started off initially to drive cell-based technology and later became a large field.

Register-transfer level (RTL) is a design abstraction which models a synchronous digital circuit in terms of the flow of digital signals (data) between hardware registers and logical operations performed on those signals. RTL abstraction is used in hardware description languages (HDL) like Verilog & VHDL to make available high level circuit representations from where the required outputs could be derived. Synthesis is a process with which abstract form of desired circuit behavior, at RTL level, is turned into a design implementation as regards the logic gates, through a computer program known as synthesis tool, Synthesis of HDLs - such as VHDL and Verilog processes
Floor planning - the first step in physical design flow is Floor planning. Floor planning is the process of identifying structures to be placed together knowing their performances and allocating of space for them such that their goals are synchronized. Area of the design and hierarchy are also considered while floor planning is decided.
Place and route - are required to design PCBs, ICs, FPG arrays. Placement is to decide where the electronic components have to be placed to satisfy the flow and the functions of them, while routing decides the exact design of the wires needed to connect the components, following the rules and limitations of the manufacturing process
